Wordpress allows you to create category descriptions by default, but very few themes (other than Genesis) will automatically display them on the front end of your website. We think this is unfortunate, as its great way to let your visitors know more about the subjects of your website, and its also great for Search Engine Optimisation.

However its really easy to add a category description to display in your theme with just a couple of lines of code, and in combination with Category Images can look really good too.
